How to use your festive mini session photos

During your Christmas mini session, I’ll capture beautiful professional portraits for your family. They’ll be perfect for displaying on the walls of your home. Or, why not mount and frame them as gifts for grandparents and family members?

You could also use your Christmas portraits in personalised photo calendars, photo albums and other photo gifts. Plus. of course, they’re perfect for sharing on social media too.

What to wear to Christmas mini sessions

Many parents ask me what their children should wear for the Christmas mini sessions, so to make things nice and easy for you, here are some tips:

1. Get Christmas mini session outfit inspiration from my Pinterest board

I’ve compiled a Pinterest board full of Christmas mini session outfit ideas.

Visit the board here and see lots of examples of clothing and accessories that would make your Christmas photos look fabulously festive!

2. Dress up or dress down?

It’s your photoshoot so you can wear whatever feels comfortable and in keeping with your style.

You may decide to all dress up in your Christmas best. Think glitzy party dresses, crisp smart shirts and well-cut blazers.

Or you might opt for a more casual look, so T-shirts, jeans and woolly jumpers. Or, maybe even Christmas PJ’s. It’s completely up to you!

Don’t spend hours dragging around the High Street looking for the perfect set of Christmas PJ’s though! We sell a range of Christmas PJs that would be ideal to wear to these sessions, (which can also be personalised if you wish). Save yourself the stress and simply ask me for more details!

3. Rich, bold colours

Whatever clothes you choose to wear, do think about the colours and the fabrics, as all these small details help to make the photos all the more special.

In the Pinterest board, you’ll see that I recommend colours that would look great against the crisp red and white backdrop.

Rich reds, navy, deep plums and emerald greens give a luxury wintery feel, or you can keep it simple and wear classic blue jeans and a white or checked shirt, for example.

The main thing to avoid is busy patterns and anything with big logos – if in doubt, choose plain clothes where possible.

4. Luxurious fabrics

To add depth and interest to the photos, do also think about the textures and fabrics you’ll wear.

Velvet dresses and detailed chiffon gowns look lovely on Mum and the girls while Dad and the boys will look great in warm and cosy winter shirts, textured jumpers, body warmers and boots.

If you’re opting for nightwear, accessorise with thick woolly socks, a winter onesie and even a Santa hat maybe?!

When it comes to accessories, shiny patent boots, sparkling headwear and jewellery also add glamour and some festive flavour.
