This Is What 6 Months Looks Like

My grandson Jaxie turned 6 months old this month — and as someone who has spent years doing family photography in Bromley, and like every parent, grandparent, and person who has ever watched someone they love grow up, I can only say: where did that time go?

As a photographer, I talk about this a lot. I know that can sometimes sound like I'm just drumming up business, and I won't pretend more bookings aren't a good thing. But hand on heart — my belief in capturing life before it moves on came long before Ashleigh Shea Photography did.

The Little Things Family Photography in Bromley Captures Before They're Gone

From newborn to 6 months, the list of things that happen is staggering. Sleepless nights that blur into mornings. The first real smile. Bottles and feeds and the particular way they curl into you. Family visits that feel ordinary in the moment and irreplaceable in memory. And this month, for Jaxie — sitting up for the very first time, wobbling and proud of himself in equal measure.

We photograph him daily. Of course we do. But there's something different about bringing him into the studio, stripping back the noise of home, and just letting him be the subject. Those gummy grins. The little chuckles that come out of nowhere. That's what we got — and those are the photos I'll treasure when he's six, sixteen, twenty-six.

The reasons we wait (and why they cost us)

I hear the same things from families all the time, and I want you to know — I understand every single one of them:

"We're too busy right now." "I don't feel great about how I look at the moment." "The kids won't cooperate." "We'll do it when things settle down."

These aren't excuses. They're real life. But here's what I've watched happen, again and again: six months pass. Then another six. Suddenly it's two years on, and the baby who couldn't sit up is running, and that particular stage — that exact version of them — is gone.

Every six months is a year. Every year is a chapter.

Time doesn't wait for us to feel ready. It doesn't pause while we get to a quieter period, or until everyone's hair is done, or until the budget feels more comfortable. It just keeps going.

What I've learned — as a photographer and as a nan watching Jaxie grow — is that the photos you take now are never the ones you regret. It's always the ones you didn't take.

It's something I see time and again with the families I photograph here in Bromley — the ones who wait, and the ones who don't.

So if you've been sitting on the idea of a family session, a milestone shoot, a newborn portrait — this is your nudge. Not because I want your booking (though I'd love it). But because in another six months, you'll wish you had.

Book your session with Ashleigh Shea Photography in Bromley and let's make this chapter one you can hold onto.
