I’ve been shooting cake smash sessions in my studio for almost 12 years now, and it still remains one of the most popular ways to celebrate your baby’s first birthday. If you're considering a cake smash session for your baby's first birthday, here are a few tips to help make it a success:

• Choose a theme or colour scheme that most reminds you of your baby at this time. Our hand crafted cakes come with buttercream icing, as it's easy to smear and doesn't dry out too quickly. This is made to match your set.
• Dress your baby in an outfit that you don't mind getting messy. A nappy cover, little turn up jeans or tutu are great options. However I also have many outfits in the studio for you to choose from too.
• Schedule the session for a time when your baby is well-rested and fed. A hungry or tired baby is less likely to be in the mood for cake!
• Bring a clean change of clothes for your baby, and make sure to have your usual supplies of water cup, nappies and wipes. You'll also need a towel for after their splash fun, we use simple or Johnsons bubbles in the studio so if your little one has a specific one they use bring that along too.
• Finally, be prepared to have fun and enjoy the moment!
