Newborn Photography Session, why should I book?

A newborn photography session is the first portrait you will have taken of your beautiful new bundle. These sessions are essential for capturing those tiny little details of your new baby. Those little things about them that change so quickly you literally only remember them by looking at photos.

Your newborn photographer will be able to capture beautiful images of your new baby in a range of different poses. It's important to ask if your photographer is fully trained especially if you'd like prop shots taken. Safety is paramount you wouldn't let a non driver drive your car. I will capture your precious addition in a caring & loving way, any shots that are more advanced or prop shots I will request help from dad if he's present, if not then mum, so that baby is safe at all times.

When looking for your newborn photographer, don't just look to see if you like their work, thats important of course but you also need to like them. If you feel a connection to or like the way someone interacts with you then they'll probably be a brilliant match for you. If your just a little unsure please call them or request meeting before scheduling your session. I'm happy to chat on the phone or meet with anyone prior to them booking, I will after all be handling your baby & you need to feel comfortable with me doing so.

How long will my newborn photography session last? Newborn sessions can be rather lengthly, lasting anything from 2-4 hours. Yes you read that right! As safety is of the utmost importance all of my newborn sessions are baby led. Thus meaning that if baby needs to feed we stop to feed, if baby needs to be settled we settle, if baby doesn't like a pose we don't do it. I won't continue with a specific shot if baby doesn't like the pose which can be a little disappointing if its one you want but your baby's comfort & safety is my key focus throughout our session.

When shall I  book my newborn photography session? With most photographers you can book your newborn session after your 6 month scan, in fact many recommend that you do so. I take bookings from this time onwards, I also keep a few dates open each month for those that don't mange to book their session prior to baby arriving.

I've booked my newborn photography session, what do I need to bring? You will need minimal items for your session. The only thing really that you need to bring is an extra feed if you're bottle feeding as babies get a little hungrier during their session than usual. Other than that your welcome to bring any little items you'd like to be in baby's photos for instance a little teddy or perhaps an item of heritage.

Siblings, do I bring them? Yes of course!! I love it when big brothers/sisters come to a session. I love to see the new bond thats beginning between them, the proudness at being the eldest & having responsibilities & the cheekiness that comes sometimes too ;)

Will you take images of my partner & I too? Yes, yes I will. I'll even try to encourage you if your not feeling fantastic. Sounds mean I know but so far in my experience no matter how not great my mums have felt they've always been thankful for having that family shot done. The majority of the time that image is the only picutre they have of them both with their beautiful baby. Your life gets turned upside down overnight & you'll find in the first few weeks you & your partner will take pictures of each other with baby & of baby alone & not manage to get one of you all.
